1 hour with Q&A Session

Show includes a large collection of art and traditional quilts including their inspiration and fun info. Enjoy a light-hearted presentation including information on how the quilts were made, special materials used and any tips for you to create your own. Watch a parade of actual quilts using confetti art, raw edge appliqué, fiber painting and crazy mixed media techniques. All art quilts are all original designs to inspire your next work. An informal and fun lecture with interaction and a Q&A at the conclusion.

 

 Surface Design Lecture 

1 HOUR LECTURE

Take your quilt to the next level with depth, texture and sparkle. This lecture explores both the supplies and techniques to help you develop new ways to express your creativity. Learn how to use Inktense Pencils/Blocks, paints, cheesecloth, wool roving and novelty fibers to embellish your work. See old techniques such as ruching, couching, stenciling and weaving made new again in a fun, easy way. Leave with a packet of resources and an embellishment tool to get you started. Material Fee.

 

Fiber Art Landscape Quilt

6 HOUR CLASS

Explore a variety of art quilting techniques and materials while creating a landscape quilt. Design your own hand dyed background fabric with shaving cream, dyes and inks on prepared for dyeing fabric. Then use free-motion quilting to generate the feel of nature before adding texture and depth by couching an assortment of fibers to the surface. Adapt one or all of these techniques for your next project. Materials Fee.

 Lone Pine Art Quilt 

6 HOUR CLASS

Master new techniques while while exploring unique fibers to create a winter woodland art quilt. Novelty thread, yarns, fabric, roving, Sari silk and tulle are used to establish depth with a distant background and textural foreground. Finish with a full, vibrant storybook tree or one closer to Charlie Brown’s. Learn how techniques used in class can be applied to an array of future quilts. Kit Fee.

 

Landscape Confetti Art Quilt

3 or 6 hour class

Create a woodland scene with confetti cut fabrics “painted” on quilt batting. Layers and layers of tiny bits of batik, hand dyed, silk and solid fabrics create landscape. Fussy cut trees, rocks and flowers are added before topping with a layer of tulle. Quilting threads embellish the art quilt with free motion stitching. Bring a photo to work from or borrow one from the instructor. Ready to quilt in 4 hour class/quilted in 6 hour class. Material fee.

 

Mixed Media Flower Art Quilt

6 hour Class

Bring your flower garden to life as you experiment with two art techniques in one quilt: InkTense Pencils and confetti cut batiks. Capture the subtle colors and texture of flower petals with InkTense Colored Pencils on fabric background then add a punch of color with tiny pieces of batik and hand dyed fabrics. Use novelty quilting threads to complete your art quilt. Material fee.

 

Coiled Rope Clothesline Basket

3 hour class 

Use a length of clothesline and strips of fabric to create an heirloom quality basket. The unique wrapping tool designed by my husband simplifies and accelerates the process. Technique covers two handle types, three ways to end and multiple embellishment ideas. This project is the perfect use for your scrap fabrics. Design an organizer for your remote controls, a cute Easter Basket or a holiday card holder. Kit fee includes everything except fabric and thread.

Patchwork Christmas Tree Skirt

3 hour class

Create an heirloom holiday piece or the perfect wedding gift from my original pattern. Five of your favorite holiday fabrics and a nine degree ruler are used to construct this lovely patchwork Christmas tree skirt. Although the 200 pieces in this project appear difficult, it goes together quickly to create a stunning keepsake and is quilted on your home machine.

Flower Basket Appliqué

3 hour class

Explore two types of appliqué as you create this Flower Basket Art Quilt. Weave basket with easy-peasy turned edge appliqué using bias scraps or a fat quarter. Fill the basket with raw edge appliqué flowers, leaves and vines. All the components come together with bonding agents on a pieced background or fat quarter to highlight your work. No stitch required until the modern, straight quilting secures it all. Scrap friendly project to use your scrappy stash.

 "Looking Up" Confetti Art Quilt

3 or 6 hour class 

Create a bug's eye view of nature with confetti cut fabrics “painted” on quilt backing. Layers and layers of tiny bits of batik, hand dyed, silk and solid fabrics create this work. Fussy cut tree trunks and branches are added before topping with a layer of tulle. Quilting threads embellish the art quilt with free motion stitching. Bring a photo to work from or borrow one from the instructor. Ready to quilt in 3 hour class/quilted in 6 hour class. Material fee.

 

Fiber Embellishments

3 hour CLASS

Add a spark of color, texture and bling to your next art quilt, table runner, or fashion accessory. Learn muiltiple techniques using fibers and fabrics you already have in your stash to create flowers, headbands, hair clips, bags, wall decor, brooches and baby room decor. You will use sari silk ribbon, specialty yarns, metallic thread, rickrack, ribbon, burlap, tee shirts, beads, buttons and so much more. Leave with an array of small completed projects and the skills create more. Kit Fee.

 

Blooming Windmill Art Quilt 

2 - DAY CLASS, 6 HOURS PER DAY

This fanciful art quilt will use a variety of quilting skills and touch on some brand-new ones. Learn the tips and tricks of this project, which include piecing, Dresden plate, bias tape creation, fabric weaving, and unique fusible and raw-edge appliqué. You’ll be amazed by what you can create with some simple tricks, and you’ll be on your way to a finished art quilt! 

 

Whimsical Bicycle Art Quilt

2-Day Class, 6 hours per day

Use all of your quilting skills to create this delightful project and ride off with glee. This project includes piecing, Dresden plate, bias tape creation, fabric weaving, unique applique using a fusible and raw edge applique. Best for intermediate to advanced quilters.
