Whimsical Snowmen

The December 2018 challenge for Island Batik Ambassador proved to be as much fun as the instructions. Create a whimsical or wonky project, or incorporate either theme into your quilt in some way

  • Any size

  • Any fabrics

  • Post any day in December

So let’s get started!

My project fits right into Michigan winters with the PERFECT Island Baitk fabric (Snowflake-Sky-Alpine Ice), my collection of 'works like white' IBs and some BRIGHT IBs. Freezer Paper patterns pressed on to MistyFuse backed fabric and snowball blocks. Pattern from Quilter’s World Magazine, February 2010.

MistyFused backed Island Batik Brights give snowball blocks ear muffs, scarf, hat and of course those wonky orange noses. Razzle Dazzle thread by Superior Threads are couched on to create smiles before heading off to the Handi Quilter Avante for quilting. The batting by Hobbs Heirloom Wool batting which provides perfect loft, wash ability and strength.

With meandering quilting complete, these cut snowmen are getting bound with more of the Island Batik Snowflake-Sky-Alpine Ice fabric.

These guys has so much personality, I made a vertical wall hanging version and a horizontal table runner version. Find both in my Etsy Shop.

And here are a few close ups of the quilting, button eyes and backing.
