FLYING GEESE - For Project QUILTING 13.6

When challenge 13.6 of Project QUILTING titled “FLYING GEESE”' was announced on Sunday I knew that my entry would include support for the Ukrainian cause. Sunflowers and blue & gold had to be the subject and color scheme.

A tribute to the brave men and women suffering in Ukraine began on my Handi Quilter Amara with a sunflower design from a program on the Pro-Stitcher. Here's the very beginning step.

A.) Quilting completed on the "Peace for Ukraine" art quilt quilted on Island Batik solid white with Superior Threads MasterPiece black. Thermore batting by Hobbs Quilt Batting to retain stark white background. B & C..) Color added to sunflowers with Inktense Pencils. D.) Bringing the color to life with fabric medium.

"Peace for Ukraine" art quilt for Project QUILTING 13.6 has been quilted, 'painted' with Intense Pencils and heat set. Those missing flying geese will be added in the next step but I'm going to rename them peace doves for this project!

A small hiccup on the "Peace for Ukraine" art quilt. The old adage measure twice, cut once really is true! Fortunately, there was enough blue fabric to cut a new strip, unsew a bit and get back on track. A.) Auditioning border colors in Ukrainian blue & yellow. B.) Stitching a small inner border in place. C.) grabbed my go-to Deb Tucker's Studio 180 Design Wing Clipper to create tiny flying geese (renamed peace doves for this project). D.) My OOPS moment on this project is all repaired now.

“Peace for Ukraine” finished at 21” X 17.5”. The edges are finished with a facing type binding which includes a hanging sleeve so it’s ready to be hung on a door or wall. The flying geese are now doves for peace.

Huge shout out thank you to a buyer from North Carolina!

This project was created with the intent to list it in my Etsy Shop then donate the entire sale price to Doctors Without Borders. This organization has a five-star rating on CharityNavigator.org and is working actively to assist the people in Ukraine.

Before this art quilt was even completed, a buyer from North Carolina contacted me to purchase it. We both felt the need to lend support to this cause. “Peace for Ukraine” art quilt will be on its way to North Carolina soon and the entire proceeds will be on the way to Doctors Without Borders.

Details of the finished project.
