A Novel Project - For Project QUILTING 14.4

little house in the big woods, cabin, quilted, pine trees, table topper,

Project QUILTINGS 14.4 selected A NOVEL THEME for the fourth bi-weekly project. The rules require a quilted item include patchwork, include appliqué, have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine inspired by any book the quilter has read. As a lifelong reader, including the 100s of books read to children and grandchildren, the topics seemed too large to wrap my head around.

Long ago snow days off from school, snuggled under quilts with school my aged children, I read the entire Laura Ingall’s Wilder series. What a great fit for this quilting challenge.

The pine green batik fabric in my stash contrast against the stark white of what could be snow to create the BIG WOODS. Freezer paper piecing tiny scraps of batik and white fabric fashioned the LITTLE HOUSE.

Trees and house are stitched together as the base for a small table topper. Seams show through when placed on dark ironing board top but will disappear during the quilting process with stark white batting.

Additional green batik fabric is auditioned for a narrow border.

Backing fabric, batting and project are loaded on my HandiQuilter AMARA with Wonderful Deco Bob bobbin thread, Glide top thread and a stars and loops design..

The LITTLE HOUS IN THE BIG WOODS finished at 26-1/2” X 12-1/2”. Look for this work and others in my Etsy Shop.

An additional views of the completed project which can be used as a wall hanging or table topper.
